Criminal Defence

Criminal defence investigation cases often involve the liberty of an individual, but a carefully planned and proper defence investigation in a criminal case can lead to favourable results. The criminal defence Private Investigator will concentrate on developing evidence, which may be sufficient for an acquittal or at least create reasonable and sufficient doubt among the juror’s as to the client’s guilt.

Criminal Appeal

SAS Investigations have specialist Criminal Appeal Investigators (ex CID) who are skilled in reviewing a case and carrying out a targeted investigation to access and pursue an appeal application. It is VITALY important that an opportunity is not wasted by attempting an application using existing evidence available previously or by using the incorrect appeal reason; a wasted appeal can make a second appeal harder to apply for. The reasons targeted for an appeal will vary from case to case, and it is our investigators first priority to analyse the existing court paperwork, trial papers and transcripts in order to decide on a viable and most secure approach. Following this stage an in-depth investigation will commence with a view to a detective providing the required evidence or facts to allow an appeal to proceed.

Defence Investigations

Solicitors rely heavily on defence information readily available at the time, and statements from the accused. It must be remembered that the Police and the CPS are working to provide a case against the accused, but without the assistance of a Private Investigator there is no-one to carry out a defence investigation. SAS Investigations can supply the Solicitors and legal team with the necessary evidence to support a stronger defence.

Private Investigation Can Help

Innocent or at least partially innocent people can be wrongly convicted simply because there is insufficient information or evidence available at the time of the trial to support the defence. In many cases the person is arrested and charged, may have restricted liberty and is faced with the Police and the CPS working hard to build up a case to try and convict them without anyone investigating the facts to support the accused.
This problem can be dealt with either at the original trial, or if there is a conviction, at the appeal level. A strong defence investigation can bring to light any evidence that may have otherwise been missed, and so provide the accused with a greater opportunity to present their full case.   • WHAT ARE THE INVESTIGATORS TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE?

    Most of the team of investigators have come from police backgrounds, in particular CID. They have had many years of experience in criminal cases whilst in the police force, and have continued this work as investigators working also with solicitors and barristers.

  • WHY DO I NEED AN INVESTIGATOR?

    After someone is charged with an offence, the police will refer the case to the CPS. They will then assess the case and if pursued will work to prosecute with any police investigations supporting their case.
    For anyone that is on the receiving end of the police charges combined with the legal work of the CPS, there is an imbalance in process. Your legal team can work for you, but you have no investigative force working to defend you, only the police working to prosecute. A skilled team of private investigators with CID backgrounds will help you have a fairer trial and defence
